ProMods Europe: A3 & Würzburg

Germany’s motorway network is one of the most recognizable in Europe, and the A3, running through the heart of Bavaria, is no exception.

Today we’re giving you a first look at a rework of the A3 corridor in the Würzburg area, covering the stretch around one of the region’s most significant interchanges and the roads that feed into it. It’s an area many of you will have passed through countless times, and we think it’s well overdue this level of attention.

A Modern Refresh

The core of this rework is accuracy. Road geometry across the area has been revisited to better reflect the real-world layout of the A3 corridor near Würzburg, with particular attention paid to the interchange design in this section of the Autobahn. Junctions that previously felt approximate now sit much closer to their real counterparts, with improved carriageway flow and more faithful slip road geometry throughout.

Alongside the structural work, the area has received a thorough visual refresh. Scenery and roadside vegetation have been updated to better capture the character of this part of Bavaria; the rolling, lightly wooded terrain that frames the A3 as it passes through the region. Signage and assets have also been brought up to standard, with accurate German motorway signage replacing older placeholder elements and contributing to the overall sense that this is a road you could genuinely place on a map.

Introducing Würzburg

At road level, the service provision along this stretch has been reworked to better reflect what drivers would actually find here. A small portion of Würzburg’s industrial character has now been brought to life with new custom prefabs to introducing a more believable commercial and industrial presence to the surrounding area. It’s the kind of roadside detail that makes a motorway feel lived-in rather than decorative.

We’re pleased with how this section of the A3 has come together, and it’s representative of the broader approach we’re taking to Germany as we continue to raise the bar across the map. As always, we thank you for your continued support.
