ProMods: Canada – One Year on

Today marks one year since we officially announced ProMods Canada, so it seems like the perfect time to give an update on our progress. We’ve also got some exciting news to share, so make sure to read the whole way through!

After a quiet period during which most developers’ attentions were on getting the ETS2 map updated to version 2.45, the last few weeks have seen a dramatic increase in progress being made on our Canada. To show some of this off we’ve prepared a small teaser video and some screenshots.

An Unexpected Expansion

People following our ETS2 development may know ajungrei93 as being the main developer in the Barents Sea region, creating the stunning scenery on the north coast of Norway. What people might not know is that he also has his own ATS mapping project, a section of British Columbia.

His project had started way back in 2018, before we ever considered building Canada. Unfortunately ajungrei93 is not very active on our team chat which is why we weren’t fully aware of his efforts in the area and never included his work in our plans. As it turns out, his work is coincidentally very close to our work. In fact it’s that close that we can connect it to the rest of the map relatively easily.

So, a few weeks ago we integrated ajungrei93’s work into our map and found ourselves in the unique situation of suddenly having a brand new, unplanned and almost completely finished section of the map. However, this poses a new challenge of how we are going to go about releasing it. There are a few options that we could take but we’ll go into those issues in a bit.

For now, take a look at some of the stunning scenes created by ajungrei93, soon to be included in ProMods Canada!

So what does this mean for us?

The finished sections of ajungrei93’s map consists primarily of the BC-99 between Cache Creek and Pemberton, which means there are three roads that can connect it to the existing ProMods Canada map.

These are:

  • The TCH-1 between Cache Creek and Kamloops
  • The BC-9, TCH-1 and BC-12 between Merritt and Lillooet
  • The BC-99 between Pemberton and Vancouver

In the image below we have highlighted the different scenarios that we could take in integrating his work with ours:

While we would love to include all of these new roads in our first release, it would take a lot of extra work and push out the release date even further. We need to find the right balance between time and quantity, we may decide to only include parts of these new areas, and continue with the rest afterwards. Still, these plans are continuously evolving, and we are always open to feedback. Nonetheless, please continue keeping an eye out on our forum topic and social media to make sure you are up to date with everything Canada!

ProMods 2.45 Has Arrived!

ProMods 2.45 brings in the “Road to the Black Sea” DLC content and has been in development for quite a while now, so we did not want to withhold release any longer. We have decided to release version 2.45 for ETS 2 build 1.36 as that is the current and official version. Since SCS will bring a completely new sound system to the upcoming build 1.37, it may take some time until we can release a compatible version of our map.

The Balkan Merge

The main purpose of this release is the Road to the Black Sea DLC merge. This new DLC has been integrated, and is therefore now mandatory to use our mod.

In order to successfully connect the new areas, more than 10 new borders have been created, between the areas by SCS and our work in Ukraine, Serbia, North Macedonia and Greece. Alongside the new border routes, we have also added a few new cities in the Balkan region including the new country of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Northern Rescale

Another major technical adjustment that has finally been integrated is the northern rescale. Changes in the map projection by SCS a few game versions ago had particularly large effects at high latitudes, leaving cities in the far north (i.e. Russia, Finland and Norway) displaced to the south. This meant that the cities had to be moved northwards and several roads had to be extended.

At the same time, some of the roads received refurbishment or rebuilding with newer textures, vegetation and road signs to enhance the quality of these areas. We can now finally show the results of our efforts.

New Content in the Middle East

In addition to ProMods 2.45, we have prepared a new version of the Middle East Add-on for you to enjoy, which contains major improvements in the previously included countries, whilst also expanding to 3 new countries and over 20 new towns that are spread out throughout the Middle East region for you to freely explore.

The expansion of both existing and brand-new countries will enhance the authenticity and atmosphere of this region by providing players with a range of climates, scenery and an individual feeling in each area – from scorching and desolate Iraqi and Jordanian deserts over hundreds of kilometres of highways with no settlement in sight, to lush farms and the Mediterranean climates of northern Israel and Syria.

General improvements in the previously released areas include increased quality and aesthetics of the towns, such as the removal of old rocks and other assets, as well as correcting regional road markings. In addition to that, we have also prepared some very unique police vehicles, which were selected to provide an authentic look for the region.

Lastly, the land connection from Lebanon to Israel is now available by travelling via Jordan and Syria, decreasing the need for the ferry service via Cyprus and preventing any inconvenience for players who have to travel to/from Lebanon.

Other Changes and Improvements

Last but not least, we have tweaked several areas around the map and added a new city in Czechia. We have also fixed several (major) bugs including the invisible walls in Rotterdam and Milano. Rest assured that much more new content across the map will come in ProMods 2.50!

ProMods Official Discord Community Server

Today we want to announce that we have opened a Discord community server as an additional platform to interact with us. The Discord server has the purpose of bringing people from the ProMods community together and be an additional source of information and updates.

Another feature of this Discord server would be to gather information and help for new modders. The goal is to create a platform where new modders can reach out to more experienced ones in order to exchange our skills. One of the things we are planning to do from time to time is livestream our own session in which we work in the map editor.

Privacy and Security is a top priority to create a positive environment on our Discord, this is why we have set up a verification system. The verification system links together your forum and Discord account, when verified, you will have full access to the Discord. You will be able to join the Discord if you aren’t verified, just not have access to all the channels.

We had many challenges with the verification system. Thanks to the help from mgefvert, we managed to set up a secure verification system.

How do I verify?

This guide covers how to join the official ProMods Community Discord and be verified, having access to all the channels.

1. Use this link to verify, you may need to sign in first to your forum account or make one: https://www.promods.net/discord/verify.php

2. Press verify your Discord account.

3. You will be taken to this screen, select ‘Authorise’.

4. You should then be verified, and receive the verified role and have access to all the channels. Make sure to read the rules channel, and enjoy your stay.

If verification doesn’t work you can use a Discord invite to join and use ModMail to ask for support: https://discord.gg/6TxBjsY

We are looking forward to seeing you there.

ProMods Compatibility Update for ETS2 1.36

Around a week ago SCS pushed out update 1.36 bringing a large number of features and improvements, like removing DX9 entirely. In the early stages of the open beta 1.36 was still quite unstable and had a lot of issues causing issues in the map editor, which has affected our ability to update our modification for 1.36 version of ETS2, such as broken mouse movements that made our work on the update to stall or become significantly difficult.

Over the weeks the build stabilised and we started working on preparing our first beta. One of the largest issues we had was that we had to replace every single walker, as SCS was removing them and replacing them with movers. After a lot of work Mandelsoft managed to get a script to replace them all for us. Along with this, as you cannot open the editor through the game anymore and need to launch it as a separate application, Mandelsoft created a useful launcher which lets you launch the editor and let’s you add lots of parameters which can be found here.

Work in Progress

Anyways, enough of the technical talking. We have now pushed an update which makes sure our mod works with version 1.36. HOWEVER do take note of the following: Due to the high complexity of the Road to the Black Sea DLC merge we have decided to overwrite all the new areas with our work. So for this version of ProMods the new DLC is not required. IF you do own the DLC, ProMods will overwrite ALL areas. This means that you won’t be able to enjoy the new Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey with ProMods enabled.

We are working very hard on merging the DLC with our mod, but sadly this is not an easy task. We have identified 14 connection points, of which 8 are major. Most of the roads we need to connect require special borders causing adding more complexity to the job. We will keep working on the merge but don’t expect an update soon. We will of course keep you guys posted on our socials about the progress of the merge.

Along with merging the new DLC, we are working hard on 2.5, which will be packed with new content, as well as on Canada. And make sure to keep an eye out on our social media and forums to see regular development news.

Work in Progress

A special notice for the Turkish community. We understand very clearly that you are eager to see Turkey being added to ProMods. We had to prioritise making ProMods work with 1.36 FIRST, before we could add connectivity to the new DLC areas. Reaching the Turkish border has been a long term goal for ProMods and SCS managed to beat us to it!
We will work very hard in the coming months and hope to release a ProMods version with Turkey soon!

ProMods and TMP: The First Weekend

As most of you will have noticed, two weeks ago TMP opened their servers for ProMods. Seeing so many of you try it out made us very proud of the hard work we have delivered over the last months. Apart from some small hiccoughs, we can safely say that the launch was an enormous success.

If you missed the whole ProMods Multiplayer compatibility story, read:

Infrastructure

We had anticipated an increase of activity on our services, but the way you guys hit us last weekend struck us as a complete surprise. All of our old records were shattered. We have never seen so many people on our forum at the same time before. We have never seen so many people register in a single weekend. We have never served this amount of bandwidth in a weekend. And the list keeps going on. We want to thank you for this overwhelming support!

A special shoutout must be made to Rick from Simulator Radio. He kindly offered some additional servers for the free download service, which really saved us that weekend. The demand for our services was 5 times higher than we had anticipated, giving us some serious headache. We did add more bandwidth to the free download server ourselves, but we were unable to keep up with the demand. Simulator Radio reached out and offered 3 high performance servers, which we added to the pool on top of our existing servers. During this time, we noticed a 99% success rate of downloads completing compared to a very small percentage of people complaining about problems (in the scheme of things).

In the image you can clearly see a rise in requests. This was very much unexpected – for the first 24 hours, Cloudflare kept us online, but we had to upgrade some services to prevent any future outages. The top 5 requests came from the following countries:

  • Germany Germany at 4,463,016
  • Turkey Turkey at 2,403,503
  • Poland Poland at 2,183,169
  • Russia Russia at 1,379,813
  • France France at 1,338,208

Looking back at the launch now, we have gathered a lot of useful data for future releases. We will evaluate them to improve our systems for the future. A small word of advice to the players; In the future we plan to have a new ProMods version available before TMP opens the servers, so you can already download the mod beforehand.

Last but not least, of course we enjoyed ourselves as well by driving around our map. Below are some of the screenshots that our team members took during their journeys.

ProMods: Canada – Progress Update

Today marks six months since our first blog post announcing our ATS project ProMods: Canada, so we figured it’d be the perfect time to update you on what’s been going on for the past six months.

First of all, we’re happy to announce that the first version of ProMods: Canada will feature at least two additional cities to the original seven that we announced back then, these being Abbotsford and Salmon Arm. Here’s the map with those two cities added:

We’ve also been working hard at building a collection of custom assets for use in Canada. Some of you may have seen that an already well known member of the ETS2/ATS community, Smarty, has recently joined our team where he’s creating a vast number of special models and signs. Some examples of these are found below:

But the custom stuff doesn’t stop at Smarty’s signs; we’ve also been preparing a number of custom company prefabs; these are delivery points that are 100% location unique so you won’t find the same layout anywhere else in the map. Our ETS2 map currently totals over 80 unique delivery points so it only makes sense that we treat Canada in the same way:

The map also wouldn’t be complete without some special Canadian vehicles, so we’ve made sure to cover that as well:

So, a lot of asset talk, but how about some info on how the map’s progressing? You’ll be happy to hear that things are progressing well. For a start, we’ve managed to port the border check functions over from ETS2 and have made progress at the USA/Canada borders:

The cities have also progressed. Make sure to look out for some recognisable brands whilst traveling through them:

The rest of the map has been progressing as you’d expect. Here are some pictures:

So then, a lot’s been going on in the past six months but where does this leave us in terms of map progression? We’ve occasionally mentioned that we have been hoping for a pre-2020 release but unfortunately it’s looking like we might overshoot that target by a little bit. The team working on Canada is small and we want to make sure to bring as much quality as we can, so whilst we could rush to finish everything before 2020 we’re not going to do so.

And finally, a quick note on DLC requirements: As anyone who uses ProMods for ETS2 will know, our current map requires the user to have all the current map DLCs installed. This is so we can use the many useful assets that each one contains and they often integrate with other parts of our map. With Canada we are taking a different approach, We’ll be using as few DLCs as possible. This means we’ll only be requiring DLCs that directly border Canada or have some really useful assets. At current, these will be The Oregon and Washington DLCs, New Mexico won’t be required and we expect the same for Utah when it releases.

So that’s all we’ve got for you today. We’ll continue to post development screenshots on the forum and our social media platforms, so make sure to follow them for the latest ProMods: Canada updates!

ProMods goes Multiplayer

ProMods 2.42 brings compatibility with the most popular mod for Euro Truck Simulator 2: TruckersMP. If you want to remain playing Singleplayer there is no need to update your ProMods, since 2.42 does not add any new content. If you are planning on playing ProMods on Multiplayer then ProMods 2.42 is a must (ProMods 2.42 will also work on Singleplayer). ProMods 2.42 will ONLY work on ETS2 version 1.35.

Keep in mind that TruckersMP hasn’t put the ProMods server online yet. Follow their socials to get a notification when the ProMods servers go live.

ProMods 2.42 brings some very essential fixes in order to get TruckersMP compatible with ProMods. Some people might think that this was an easy task but let me assure you: it wasn’t. Several big changes had to be made in prefab data all over the map. While we did try to fix most of the compatibility issues, we can only gather enough data when a lot of people are using it. Hence why 2.42 is considered an “Open Beta”, where we are still gathering data about potential problems that may arise while playing ProMods in TruckersMP.

Since ProMods was never designed to work with TruckersMP in mind, it is a humongous task to get everything working from the first try. We expect to release an update for the 2.42 within a short timeframe (1-2 months) also to accommodate the 1.36 update which is currently in Open Beta.

We’ll be opening a new section of the forum where you can report any issues you face whilst running 2.42 with TruckersMP – Please note that if you find an issue that you suspect is caused by the TruckersMP client consider reporting the issue on TruckersMP’s site as we would like to reserve our forums for issues caused by ProMods in combination with TruckersMP only.

ProMods 2.42 will give you guys a first glance in what TruckersMP and ProMods have to offer for you. The coming ProMods version will contain tons of fixes to make the experience better. Not to forget that we are also still working on creating new areas, both in ETS2 and ATS. To keep up to date with these development, visit our forums.

We expect that many of you will have questions as to how exactly ProMods will work in TruckersMP and how you can start playing ProMods on TruckersMP yourself. It is highly likely that you can find the answers to your questions in the Knowledge Base Articles that TruckersMP will be posting on their website closer to the release. All you need from us is the newest ProMods version (in this case ProMods 2.42) installed in your mod folder. If ProMods 2.42 works in singe player, it will also work in Multiplayer.

But what if I only want to play single player?

ProMods 2.42 will work on both TruckersMP and the single player game, if you only wish to play on single player consider ProMods 2.42 to be a normal update and all future ProMods versions will be compatible with both single player and TruckersMP. Keep in mind that ProMods 2.42 adds nothing new compared to ProMods 2.41, so the update is not a must for people who want to play single player only. Our new partnership with TruckersMP doesn’t mean we’ll be operating any differently to how we did before, we’ll still be improving and expanding the map in the same way we’ve been doing for the past six years.

Compatibility Updates for ETS2 1.35 Released

Less than a month ago SCS released the new Euro Truck Simulator 2 1.35 update. Considering our final testing phase takes 2~3 weeks we have managed to push this large update out in record breaking time.

It wasn’t easy to get ProMods 2.4 converted for this new version; taking a lot of time and practically all our resources. Not only did we have to update many models to be able to support DirectX 11, and some of our road elements to support the new voice navigation feature… We also had to merge in the new parts of the SCS Germany rework and since some of these areas were already rebuilt in ProMods, we had to merge various bits and pieces from our work into the work from the SCS developers.

However, we think that we have struck a good balance between SCS and ProMods mapping. For example, Nuremberg is still present as a ProMods city, with the highway system upgraded to the standard from the SCS team. And not only did we do merging work, but we also upgraded many assets along the way, such as in Ukraine. This is only the start of what is to come in this area.

There were many bugs arising from the newly implemented feature of voice navigation, so we fixed our prefabs so that the player is given the correct instructions. Unfortunately, there are a small number of issues which we were unable to resolve – at least for now. So the same rule applies for voice navigation as in real life: “Don’t trust the satnav blindly!”

With this conversion and merge behind us, we can now fully focus our resources on creating ProMods 2.5, and, of course, on our other project, ProMods Canada.

The support for DirectX 11 in Euro Truck Simulator 2 also made compatibility updates of our add-ons Trailer & Company Pack and Cabin Accessories Pack necessary. Both updates are available for download now.

ProMods 2.40 With Merged Baltics is Available Now!

Finally we have finished the merge of the new Beyond the Baltic Sea DLC with ProMods and now you can enjoy this new DLC together with our mod. This new version will therefore require users to have the new Beyond the Baltic Sea DLC installed to use it.

In this version, about 30 cities were added or improved in Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, and Sweden. We also worked on many roads and landscapes in different countries.

To reduce the files size and clean up our mod, we removed some old prefabs and models which were no longer in use or where better versions are available now. So if you use other maps in combination with ProMods, there’s a change that these add-on maps may be broken and require an update themself.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

We have decided to release version 2.40 for ETS 2 build 1.34 as that is the current and official version. ProMods 2.40 brings in the Beyond the Baltic Sea DLC content and has been in development for quite a while now, so we did not want to withhold release any longer. It may take up to a month for SCS to release build 1.35, which will render this version INCOMPATIBLE.

It is your personal decision whether you want to access the new 2.40 content now, or if you wish to spare your €1 and wait until the next ProMods update will be released, which will support 1.35. This is likely to be at least six weeks away, and even more likely to be even longer to fully get all 1.35 content back in ProMods.

You can always roll back your game version in the Steam Library properties selecting “temporary_1_34 – 1.34.x for incompatible mods” – when 1.35 is out.

ProMods ATS – A New World is Born

Our very first version of ProMods began as an expansion into the northern regions of Europe. Now, 6 years later, it’s time for the younger brother of ETS2 to get the same treatment. Therefore we are excited to officially announce our next major project:

PROMODS ATS – CANADA

Vancouver B.C.

You may have already seen a certain video we posted on our YouTube channel a few weeks ago. Since this video was released on April 1st, quite some people doubted its legitimacy. We would like to confirm that this project is indeed real!

With the Washington DLC by SCS on its way, we are excited to expand the map further north. The first stage of the mod will include a part of the province of British Columbia, with cities like Vancouver, Kamloops, and Kelowna. Our goal is to consistently expand throughout the vast and beautiful regions of Canada, although this is a very long-term process.

Below we have a map showing what is planned for the initial release. We still have a lot of work to do, so we will not announce any release dates for now, but we will keep you updated on our progress.

If you would like to keep up to date on developments, we now have a Development thread on our forum . We have already been working on the project for a few months, so we have some screenshots to show already. Do you recognise any areas? As always, areas shown are W.I.P. and may not be finalised. Enjoy!
