ProMods 2.60 Previews: Iceland

In this week’s preview we take a look at the new and rebuilt content coming to Iceland in ProMods 2.60, which includes the most brand-new content in Iceland since ProMods 2.10 way back in 2016. Developer DOWL has worked for over a year to build 300 km of new roads to drive as well as continuing to refresh older parts of the island.

The largest area of all-new content to explore is the stunning Snæfellsnes Peninsula which extends 75km out towards Greenland on the western side of Iceland. It has been dubbed ‘Iceland in Miniature’ due to the dramatically varied scenery including mountains, grasslands, lakes, fjords, and volcanoes such as the mighty 1,446 metre Snæfellsjökull.

Enjoy the drive along road 54 to the end of the peninsula and the historic fishing and trading settlement of Ólafsvík where you can find a number of fisheries needing your help to deliver new supplies and ship their products out of town. Tourists will enjoy the hiking trails into the mountains and the long sandy beaches.

Further up the north coast of Snæfellsnes lies the port town of Stykkishólmur with its picturesque harbour and the Súgandisey Island Lighthouse sitting atop the cliffs. The port serves the car/passenger ferry to the island of Flatey and to Brjánslækur on the Westfjords. As is often the case in Snæfellsnes, rugged mountains rise up from the coast and continue inland.

With such small populations and little traffic, the region has little incentive to pave all of its roads. The 54 along the north coast is unpaved for much of the route, twisting its way along the coast, while road 55 climbs over the highlands, connecting the north and south sides of the peninsula.

Meanwhile, a new route has been added in the Westfjords, allowing you to make the trip to the remote hamlet of Norðurfjörður at the end of the perilous and narrow road 643. Supplies are much needed in the winter and so it is up to you to ensure they arrive safely. Make sure you go prepared for the conditions you may face.

Elsewhere you can look forward to a refreshed Blönduós, an important town on the Hringvegur (Road 1) where you can stop for fuel and repairs, as well as delivering goods to and from the shop and port companies. Gone are many older assets, replaced with higher quality ones to make the town feel up to date.

That’s all for Iceland in 2.60, who knows what the future may hold for this unique island in ProMods.

ProMods 2.60 Previews: The Czech Republic

Welcome to the first of our ProMods 2.60 Previews! Last year’s previews were a success and so we have decided to do the same again for ProMods 2.60. Over the next several weeks we’ll be taking a closer look at the new and refreshed areas coming in 2.60. Apart from seeing many screenshots you might also learn something new about the places we’ll be covering as well as get a little insight behind the scenes of our development.

Today we will talk about the Czech Republic and, in particular, its second largest city: Brno, which will receive a major rebuild in 2.60. But that’s not new information. A few months ago we shared a Development Update video focusing solely on the south-Moravian metropolis. If you haven’t seen it yet, we recommend you do so now as it will give you a better idea of what we’ll be talking about in the following paragraphs.

Present day Brno is a vibrant university city that combines glossy skyscrapers with majestic historical architecture including the city’s dominant buildings, the cathedral of St. Peter and Paul and the Špilberk castle. You’ll be able to see both when driving through the city centre.

What has driven the city forward for two centuries are the industry and logistics connected to it. In the 19th century textile plants became dominant and Brno received the nickname “Moravian Manchester”. However nowadays “Moravian Silicon Valley” would be more fitting as the textile industry was entirely replaced by IT firms and engineering companies.

The development of Brno is a great example of cooperation among team members. The whole project was started by developer EG0611 more than a year ago. Later on it was continued by developers Plum and scan720 and eventually Qixiwi filled the remaining gaps and made sure that everything was clean and polished.

Speaking of developers involved, Qixiwi wants to say following:
“Despite ETS2 being a road-oriented game, I actually put a lot of effort into creating tracks. In our representation of Brno there’s quite a long tram line with several custom-made stations where you’ll be able to spot authentic looking Tatra T3 trams.”

“Even my favourite place in Brno has something to do with rails. It’s the intersection of streets Heršpická and Poříčí where you can witness a unique example of street-running in the Czech Republic.”

Aside from Brno, roads I/35 and I/43 have been rebuilt by EG0611. When driving these roads you will also visit the scenic towns of Svitavy and Mohelnice as well as Vysoké Mýto with the Iveco bus manufacturing plant formerly known as Karosa.

ProMods Canada: Version 1.1.0 – What’s new?

It’s been 10 months since the first version of ProMods Canada released and while it’s taken longer than expected, the next content update for ProMods Canada is almost Ready.

What does the update contain?

Version 1.1.0 of ProMods Canada primarily focuses on adding a connection from Vancouver to Kamloops Via the BC-99. Along the route you’ll experience the stunning coastal and mountain views of the Sea to Sky Highway between Vancouver and Pemberton, passing Squamish and Whistler along the way.

Leaving Pemberton the route follows the path of the Lillooet River before climbing to pass Duffey Lake, winding through the mountain valley and heading into Lillooet

Once through Lillooet the BC-99 follows the Fraser River to the settlement of Pavilion where it breaks away to pass Pavilion Lake in the Marble Canyon Provincial Park.

The BC-99’s route concludes just north of Cache Creek at an intersection with the BC-97 which itself heads southwards to end in Cache Creek where it meets the TCH-1

Finally, the TCH-1 continues east of Cache Creek, through unusually desertic environments before reaching the interchange with the BC-5 near Kamloops.

But that’s Not all

In addition to the main highways, v1.1.0 will also bring a number of gravel tracks and service roads to reach some of the more remote settlements in the region.

We’ve also included Horseshoe Bay as a city with two companies and while the ferry terminal may not be in use yet, it gives a sneak peak at some potential future updates for ProMods Canada.

There will also be other additions around the map to look out for which we may show in more detail at a later date.

Lytton

As part of version 1.1.0 we had planned to include a connection between Lillooet and Merritt via the town of Lytton. We also wanted to include the TCH-1 between Hope and Cache Creek, also Via Lytton. However as some of you may have seen, on June the 30th, while British Columbia was experiencing a record-breaking heat wave the town of Lytton found itself in the path of an out of control wildfire. With 70km/h winds pushing the fire north at estimated speeds of up to 20km/h, residents had very little time to evacuate the town before 90% of it was catastrophically burned to the ground.

Due to the nature of the event and the effect it had on the population, we have elected to remove Lytton from version 1.1.0. We are considering possible methods to respectfully bring it back in the near future, but for now the town will be omitted from the release.
