ProMods 2.50 Released

Over the past two months, we showcased the new content in our current map release. And now you can explore ProMods 2.50, compatible with ETS2 version 1.38, for yourself.

This major update features over 40 new or rebuilt cities across 20 countries. For the first time, Albania, Montenegro and Georgia are represented. The changes are summarised in the following image:

As usual, this update both expands the map in many directions, and rebuilds/upgrades existing parts of the map. We want to keep as much of the map as possible at today’s highest standards, which sometimes requires improving ProMods mapping from just a few years ago.

For more screenshots and details of what’s new, just look through the recent posts on this blog, where we published numerous in-depth previews while getting the update ready for release.

To give you an idea of the scale of work involved: since we entered the beta-testing phase in late June, the developers have fixed almost 3000 bugs, and placed signs and other finishing touches all over the map. And in the first 3 days, we already served 30 TB of data to the community. So, what are you waiting for? We hope that you enjoy ProMods 2.50!

Promoter Videos

Still need convincing to give our map our go, or just want something to watch while downloading to help you decide where to explore first? Our media promotion partners have made a wide range of content with a beta-version of the mod to inform and entertain you. One video from each promoter is listed below. Some of them have made many more!

We must start with our own official teaser trailer. TGM once again did an amazing job with this trailer!

For more in-depth, but still self-contained, cinematic preview videos:

Want to see more of a particular region? Wombat Trucker has serialised his videos (similarly to our own previews on this blog).

If you prefer longer-form driving videos or even livestreams:

We are not limited to English-speaking promoters:

We’d like to thank our promoters for all the hard work they put into creating their stunning content.

ProMods 2.50 Trailer Skin Pack

Look carefully at the start of our video trailer and you will notice a special trailer skin. Our add-on developer tkk7406 has made this trailer skin pack to celebrate the release of ProMods 2.50! It features screenshots from some of the top locations throughout the map. There are skins available for all types of box and tank trailers from the base game and both the Schwarzmüller and Krone Trailer Pack DLCs, so you’ll be able to match your entire trailer fleet to the ProMods 2.50 theme and design!

In addition, some of our promoters received personalised trailer skins, which you can see in their videos—again thanks to tkk7406. He collaborated with Clumsy and Squirrel to design their very own ProMods 2.50 trailers as a token of appreciation for supporting ProMods.

All three skin packs are available to download now in the Steam Workshop, separately from the main mod. Make sure you don’t miss them! You’ll find the main skin pack by clicking here, and if you are a fan of Clumsy or Squirrel or if you are a member of their VTCs, make sure you download Clumsy’s trailer skins and Squirrel’s trailer skins.

Add-On Packs

Of course, our official add-on packs needed updating to ETS2 version 1.38 as well.

The Middle-East Add-On Pack version 2.50 features a new road connection amongst other minor improvements.

The Trailer and Company Pack (TCP) version 1.26 and Cabin Accessories Pack (CAP) version 1.12 are simply compatibility updates.

ProMods 2.50 Previews: Georgia

Welcome to the final ProMods 2.50 preview. We’re ending with Georgia, a brand new country which didn’t really fit in any of the other previews. While that wraps up the new content in the main ProMods map, we will then outline updates to the Middle-East Add-on Pack, before reviewing all the regions we’ve covered so you have a chance to catch up.

Georgia

Georgia is a country situated on the foothills of the Caucasus mountains, which are the crossroads between Europe and Asia, with the Black Sea to the west. Compared to its immediate neighbours, Armenia and Azerbaijan, Georgia enjoys a generally warmer climate on the coast which sustains crops and vegetation, such as wine and palm trees. It is traversed by numerous mountain ranges, forests and rivers which define the landscape and beauty of this country.

In this first rendition of the Caucasus, part of the Georgian coast has been added with the coastal cities of Batumi and Poti, significant for the freight and tourism sectors. Batumi is the country’s second-largest city and one of the main destinations for local and foreign tourism, in addition to its freight shipping importance. The border crossing to Turkey is nearby, and stimulates the economy of the area and the country as whole.

Poti is a smaller port city compared to Batumi, but it facilitates a shipyard and freight-oriented facilities, with significant ferry connections to the countries of Bulgaria and Ukraine, which see a large quantity of freight traffic and passenger vehicles coming through the port. As in the real world, Poti (and the rest of Georgia) is reached in-game by a ferry from Varna, Bulgaria.

Georgia may seem like a strange addition, being so far removed from any other development. Indeed, the rest of the team was quite surprised when developer Platypus announced he was going to work on Georgia. However, he has long held an interest in the region, and wanted a break from working on the Middle-East Add-on Pack. Since the ferry connection to Georgia is in Bulgaria, not the Middle East, it makes more sense to include it in the main ProMods map.

Middle East

Compared to the main map, version 2.50 of the Middle-East Add-on Pack is not a major content update. That being said, there are a few additions and changes which one of the Middle East developers, Horizon, has summarised below. Further information and screenshots can be found by following the links to the development topic on our forum.

Damascus-Iraq road

After the successful release of the new countries of Iraq and Syria, we (Platypus and Horizon) realised that a single corridor is no longer enough, considering many players prefer a few different routes between different content. Therefore, we came to the conclusion of providing another route between the cities of Ar-Rutbah and Damascus.

The co-operation involved building a lonely highway through the Syrian desert to the border crossing, whilst the Iraqi section of the route has involved building up the roads that lead to the border crossing.

For more information and screenshots, visit the development forum topic.

Other changes

Platypus has decided to implement changes in Beirut to honour the victims of the tragic recent explosion in the Lebanese capital. He has also added specifically-designed adverts to Israel, and made improvements to various ports.

Conclusion

And with that, the ProMods 2.50 previews are complete. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading them and found them useful or interesting—with the more in-depth format and higher frequency of posts, they are a new concept for our blog, so your feedback is welcome.

Since starting with Spain 8 weeks ago, we’ve published 11 previews (including this one). In case you missed some, or just want to revisit the areas you’re looking forward to the most, here are the links to each:

If you made it to the end, for the final time: thanks for reading. While the 2.50 previews may be over, we plan to keep the blog on the more active side, so follow us on social media to keep up to date.

ProMods 2.50 Previews: Nordics and Russia

Welcome to the penultimate preview of ProMods 2.50. We’ve brought together new content and rebuilds from multiple parts of the Nordics and far northwest Russia, which we’ll cover from south to north.

Åland

One of the many additions in ProMods 2.50 is the completed archipelago of Åland, located in the Baltic Sea halfway between Finland and Sweden. Leo2612 details the history of its development:

Before we focus on the new content, let’s take a look back at the development of this area. Initially, the development was started all the way back in mid-2016 by HixoPL, who laid out the roads, and over the months finished most of the centre of Mariehamn (the capital) and Geta. Shortly before version 2.20 was released, Leo2612 closed a few remaining gaps in Mariehamn, so the first part of Åland could be released.

With the release of the Beyond the Baltic Sea DLC by SCS in December 2018, new Finnish assets arrived to the game, so Mariehamn had to be upgraded to match the high standard. A few months later, Leo2612 started to finish the island by closing the remaining gaps and upgrading the rest of the island with the new assets, so it could ultimately get released as a whole in the way HixoPL had planned. After nearly another year, some areas in Mariehamn that had started to show their age were rebuilt. Furthermore, the new part of the city was further detailed which finally made the area ready for release.

In the new, extended version of Åland, you will be able to visit two new villages, Godby and Geta, of which the latter is still mostly HixoPL’s work. Don’t miss the delivery point north of Geta with a beautiful lake view.

In the capital of Mariehamn, you will be able to discover new landmarks, including the parliament of Åland, as well as some of the many parks the city has to offer, which have been recreated as closely as possible.

Leo2612 and HixoPL hope you truly enjoy this new area!

Luleå

Next, we move to northern Sweden where Ostpuff has built the city of Luleå. Situated on the Bothnian Bay coast, Luleå is bypassed by the north-south E4 route which was completed between Stockholm and the Finnish border at Haparanda/Tornio in ProMods 2.30. The city itself, however, has only now been completed.

Muonio and Karesuando

Continuing northwards into northern Finland and the far north of Sweden, Vladzz-G has added a substantial new area. There are two functional towns in-game:

Muonio, near the Swedish border but contained within Finland;

And Karesuando, the northernmost locality in Sweden, which together with the Finnish village of Karesuvanto straddles the border defined by the Muonio River. While both villages are represented in-game, only Karesuando is functional, with a company and mechanic, while Karesuvanto has a fuel station and rest area. Karesuando church—itself Sweden’s northernmost—is a pretty sight as you cross the river from Finland.

The settlements are connected to the existing road network north of Kittilä, and pass through typically Finnish scenery, dominated by forests and lakes, but interspersed by clearings and small villages.

Russia

Finally, we come to the northernmost changes in ProMods 2.50 (yes, including Iceland). Horizon has built the new bypass of Nikel, in the far northwest of Russia. The bypass has been completed in the real world as part of improvements to the E105 route. Horizon provides the following details:

“As the rescale of the north commenced, I was hooked on refurbishing or replacing outdated parts of northern Russia, such as this, the P21 (romanised: R21) highway that bypasses the old route and the city of Nikel.

I have enjoyed recreating the new section of the highway as realistically as possible, such as using videos, photos, satellite images and other information, like the recently adopted rule that allows the road to have yellow lane markings, similar to Finland and Norway. As much as I had fun developing, the lack of updated streetview from Google or Yandex might have resulted in a less realistic area, as I had to use rare photos, videos and satellite imagery to develop just the road layout and scenery, whilst also using Google Maps’ 3D view to understand the topography of and around the road.”

Lastly, as the area is heavily militarised and protected, the new section of the road will contain a checkpoint that also exists in the real world, to act as a miniature border crossing for players to stop and experience driving on the Russian highways.

We hope you are looking forward to these various northern expansions and improvements. We’ll be back with the final preview in just a few days, where we’ll look at the surprising addition of Georgia and updates to the Middle-East add-on, as well as looking back at all of the previous previews.
