ProMods: Canada – One Year on

Today marks one year since we officially announced ProMods Canada, so it seems like the perfect time to give an update on our progress. We’ve also got some exciting news to share, so make sure to read the whole way through!

After a quiet period during which most developers’ attentions were on getting the ETS2 map updated to version 2.45, the last few weeks have seen a dramatic increase in progress being made on our Canada. To show some of this off we’ve prepared a small teaser video and some screenshots.

An Unexpected Expansion

People following our ETS2 development may know ajungrei93 as being the main developer in the Barents Sea region, creating the stunning scenery on the north coast of Norway. What people might not know is that he also has his own ATS mapping project, a section of British Columbia.

His project had started way back in 2018, before we ever considered building Canada. Unfortunately ajungrei93 is not very active on our team chat which is why we weren’t fully aware of his efforts in the area and never included his work in our plans. As it turns out, his work is coincidentally very close to our work. In fact it’s that close that we can connect it to the rest of the map relatively easily.

So, a few weeks ago we integrated ajungrei93’s work into our map and found ourselves in the unique situation of suddenly having a brand new, unplanned and almost completely finished section of the map. However, this poses a new challenge of how we are going to go about releasing it. There are a few options that we could take but we’ll go into those issues in a bit.

For now, take a look at some of the stunning scenes created by ajungrei93, soon to be included in ProMods Canada!

So what does this mean for us?

The finished sections of ajungrei93’s map consists primarily of the BC-99 between Cache Creek and Pemberton, which means there are three roads that can connect it to the existing ProMods Canada map.

These are:

  • The TCH-1 between Cache Creek and Kamloops
  • The BC-9, TCH-1 and BC-12 between Merritt and Lillooet
  • The BC-99 between Pemberton and Vancouver

In the image below we have highlighted the different scenarios that we could take in integrating his work with ours:

While we would love to include all of these new roads in our first release, it would take a lot of extra work and push out the release date even further. We need to find the right balance between time and quantity, we may decide to only include parts of these new areas, and continue with the rest afterwards. Still, these plans are continuously evolving, and we are always open to feedback. Nonetheless, please continue keeping an eye out on our forum topic and social media to make sure you are up to date with everything Canada!

ProMods: Canada – Progress Update

Today marks six months since our first blog post announcing our ATS project ProMods: Canada, so we figured it’d be the perfect time to update you on what’s been going on for the past six months.

First of all, we’re happy to announce that the first version of ProMods: Canada will feature at least two additional cities to the original seven that we announced back then, these being Abbotsford and Salmon Arm. Here’s the map with those two cities added:

We’ve also been working hard at building a collection of custom assets for use in Canada. Some of you may have seen that an already well known member of the ETS2/ATS community, Smarty, has recently joined our team where he’s creating a vast number of special models and signs. Some examples of these are found below:

But the custom stuff doesn’t stop at Smarty’s signs; we’ve also been preparing a number of custom company prefabs; these are delivery points that are 100% location unique so you won’t find the same layout anywhere else in the map. Our ETS2 map currently totals over 80 unique delivery points so it only makes sense that we treat Canada in the same way:

The map also wouldn’t be complete without some special Canadian vehicles, so we’ve made sure to cover that as well:

So, a lot of asset talk, but how about some info on how the map’s progressing? You’ll be happy to hear that things are progressing well. For a start, we’ve managed to port the border check functions over from ETS2 and have made progress at the USA/Canada borders:

The cities have also progressed. Make sure to look out for some recognisable brands whilst traveling through them:

The rest of the map has been progressing as you’d expect. Here are some pictures:

So then, a lot’s been going on in the past six months but where does this leave us in terms of map progression? We’ve occasionally mentioned that we have been hoping for a pre-2020 release but unfortunately it’s looking like we might overshoot that target by a little bit. The team working on Canada is small and we want to make sure to bring as much quality as we can, so whilst we could rush to finish everything before 2020 we’re not going to do so.

And finally, a quick note on DLC requirements: As anyone who uses ProMods for ETS2 will know, our current map requires the user to have all the current map DLCs installed. This is so we can use the many useful assets that each one contains and they often integrate with other parts of our map. With Canada we are taking a different approach, We’ll be using as few DLCs as possible. This means we’ll only be requiring DLCs that directly border Canada or have some really useful assets. At current, these will be The Oregon and Washington DLCs, New Mexico won’t be required and we expect the same for Utah when it releases.

So that’s all we’ve got for you today. We’ll continue to post development screenshots on the forum and our social media platforms, so make sure to follow them for the latest ProMods: Canada updates!

ProMods ATS – A New World is Born

Our very first version of ProMods began as an expansion into the northern regions of Europe. Now, 6 years later, it’s time for the younger brother of ETS2 to get the same treatment. Therefore we are excited to officially announce our next major project:

PROMODS ATS – CANADA

Vancouver B.C.

You may have already seen a certain video we posted on our YouTube channel a few weeks ago. Since this video was released on April 1st, quite some people doubted its legitimacy. We would like to confirm that this project is indeed real!

With the Washington DLC by SCS on its way, we are excited to expand the map further north. The first stage of the mod will include a part of the province of British Columbia, with cities like Vancouver, Kamloops, and Kelowna. Our goal is to consistently expand throughout the vast and beautiful regions of Canada, although this is a very long-term process.

Below we have a map showing what is planned for the initial release. We still have a lot of work to do, so we will not announce any release dates for now, but we will keep you updated on our progress.

If you would like to keep up to date on developments, we now have a Development thread on our forum . We have already been working on the project for a few months, so we have some screenshots to show already. Do you recognise any areas? As always, areas shown are W.I.P. and may not be finalised. Enjoy!
